Thirty crafts units from across the country will be participating in this year’s Kuteera, beginning January 4 at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath on Kumara Krupa Road. Organised by the Crafts Council of Karnataka, the exhibition and sale of traditional and contemporary handicrafts, home products and accessories will continue till January 10.
The spotlight this year will be folk and traditional paintings from different parts of India — Pattachitra from Orissa, Rajasthan miniatures and Kerala murals to accent your walls. A first this year are Cheriyal mural paintings from Andhra Pradesh and Mysore Ganjifa cards from Karnataka, made by award-winning craftspersons. Apart from that, Kauna grass woven mats from Hassan, metal bronzes in traditional and contemporary styles and a new range of contemporary stone ware from the Shivarapatna area will be present. CCK’s Kamalini crafts shop will also, for the first time, feature traditional board games of Karnataka.
Karnataka will showcase Bhuta ritual masks and bronzes from the coast of the state, a wide range of painted woodware products from the languishing craft tradition of Kinhal in Northern Karnataka, ganjifa cards and puppets. Home furnishings will include eco-friendly natural-dyed bedspreads, quilts and cushions from Andhra and silk bed-linen of Karnataka. Floor coverings include kora grass mats from Pattamadai, Warangal durries and Kashmir carpets and durries. Other home accessories include ceramics, Kondapalli toys and woodware, brass hanging lamps, tribal iron and metal crafts, vegetable dyed lacquerware, products fashioned from natural fibre, handmade paper and kalamkari painted cloth.
The exhibition is open from 10 am to 7 pm. For details call: 6530-5029.
