Fast bowlers Dale Steyn and Makhaya Ntini shared six wickets to earn the advantage for South Africa on the first day of the second Test against West Indies on Wednesday.
West Indies, who won the toss and chose to bat, were 240 for eight at the close.
Steyn (4/60) and Ntini (2/63) undid much of the good work of Marlon Samuels (51) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul who completed a stand of 106 after West Indies slumped to 77 for three before lunch. Chanderpaul was 64 not out at stumps.
Samuels and Chanderpaul stabilised the innings but Ntini accounted for Samuels and Dwayne Bravo after tea while Steyn dismissed Denesh Ramdin and Rawl Lewis in consecutive deliveries. Taylor was out for eight in the third last over of the day off Steyn.
