A 38-year-old lecturer from Kittur has been arrested by the police on charges of sexually harassing girl students at Kittur, 40 km from Belgaum, on Wednesday.

A part-time lecturer from a private degree college at Kittur, Chidanand Daddikar was allegedly harassing girl students at his tuition classes. On Wednesday, many students and their parents complained to DySP S L Tungal, against the lecturer.

Some of the girls, aged 11 and 12 years, complained to the police officer that they were being taken to secluded places and sexually harassed. Though they were being harassed for many days, they were afraid to complain, since he had threatened them with dire consequences.

Besides serving as a part-time lecturer, Daddikar was running tutorials to prepare students for competitive examinations. Several students hailed from surrounding areas, but were staying in Kittur for tuitions. Bailhongal police registered a case against the lecturer, and produced him in court on Wednesday.
