Dacoit shot dead
DH News Service, Bidar:

One of the members of a dacoit gang was allegedly killed in an encounter with police on Tuesday night, on the outskirts of Humanabad town.

Dy SP P A Korwar told Deccan Herald that  in the last few days the police had received several complaints that a five-member gang was commiting pick-pocket and dacoity on NH-9, near a dhaba in front of the RTO Check Post, where lorries usually stopped.

On Tuesday night, a lorry driver Ismail Saudagar, a resident of Sakin Rajeshwar, raised an alarm when the gang attempted to rob him.

While the police chased the gang in the dark one of the dacoits stabbed head constable Chandrappa in the chest. DySP Sridhar opened fire killing one. Rest of the gang members managed to escape.

The gang member succumbed to injuries in a hospital. However, the details of the deceased have to be ascertained yet, the DySP said. Superintendent of Police Dr Subramanyeshwar Rao and IG North-Easterm Range MM Murthy visited the spot.
