Films on freedom movement
The Bangalore office of Films Division of India on Thursday kicked off a two-day screening of films on the Indian independence movement. Films are being screened at Government High School, B Narayanapura. Screening is open to students from Classes 8, 9 and 10. The films screened on Thursday were 1857 - The Beginning, Jallianwallah Bagh, The Great Salt March, Dr Visvesvaraya, Glory of Hampi, Hoysala and Chalukyan Architecture of Karnataka and Taj Mahal. On Friday, six films, including films on Non-cooperation Movement and Bhagat Singh, will be screened.
Children learn it playfully!
As many as 530 children studying in five corporation-run primary schools had great fun learning session with chirping and laughing at ‘Chilipili Mela’ on Thursday. It was an annual event, a part of the initiative of ‘The Promise Foundation’, an NGO associated with these schools in the “Programme for Assisted Learning for under-performing children. Children enjoyed toy-making, colouring, learning songs, interactive story-telling sessions, games, dance in an informal setting.
International meet on teaching English
The four-day International Conference, ‘The Way Forward: Learning from International Experience of Teaching English to Young Learners’, was inaugurated on Thursday. It was jointly organised by IATEFL Special Interest Group in partnership with British Council. Gayathri Devi Dutt, former Director, RIESI elaborated on the association between Regional Institute of English and British Council in teaching English to young learners and training teachers of English.
