A pillion rider was killed and the rider was injured when a mobike fell into a ditch near Kottikal bridge on Shiradi Ghat on NH 48. According to police, the deceased has been identified as Girish (25), a resident of Peraru in Edapadavu. The injured is Sharath (20), a resident of Kumpadavu. Girish was working in Bangalore. He had come down to his native place to celebrate new year and had purchased a new mobike on Tuesday. The mishap occurred when they were on way to Bangalore in the mobike. A case has been registered.

Man killed
A person was killed when he accidentally slipped and fell from a palm tree at Dasakodi near Biliyoor.  According to police, the deceased has been identified as Kanthappa Poojary (50). A case has been registered.

Burglary
Some culprits gained entry into a house belonging to one Gracy Monthero (44), a resident of Thiruvail village, by breaking the back door and committed theft of gold ornaments on Wednesday. The value of the burgled valuables is said to be worth Rs 3,56,000. A case of burglary has been registered in Mangalore Rural Police Station.
