PMs Discuss Disarm Question
New Delhi, Jan. 3.
The question of disarmament in general and the Polish proposal for creating a zone free of atomic weapons in Europe were among subjects understood to have been discussed between Prime Minister Nehru and the Czechoslovak Premier, Mr. Villiam Siroky, when the later called on Mr. Nehru this evening. The Secretary-General of the External Affairs Ministry, Mr N R Pillai, the Foreign Secretary, Mr S Dutt were also present during the meeting.
Hillary Creates History Again
Wellington, Jan. 3.
Sir Edmund Hillary, joint conqueror of Mount Everest with Tenzing Norkay, today reached the South Pole-the first man to get there by the overland route since Captain Robert Scott’s ill-fated expedition in 1912.
Sir Edmund, leading the New Zealand trans-Antarctic expedition, radioed the news of his success to the Ross Sea Committee, organisers of the expedition, at 11.01 pm (GMT)

PM Announces New policy
Tirupati, Jan. 3.
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi today announced a technology policy which aims at self-reliance to reduce vulnerability, particularly in strategic and critical areas.
Inaugurating the 70th session of the Indian Science Congress here, Mrs Gandhi said we believe that technology must be based on our own culture and personality.”
