Nritarutya, a Bangalore-based dance Trust is presenting its new production in contemporary Indian dance. An ICCR-empanelled dance troupe, it is a confluence of art forms and artistes. Creating new movement vocabulary that is essentially Indian.
Bangaloreans can now watch its 4th home production ‘Prayog-3’. The showcase of Nritarutya’s current innovations in Indian contemporary dance, in the form of ‘Prayog-3’, will be staged January 4 at Chowdaiah Memorial hall, 6.45 pm.
“Comprising as many as 15 dancers, three choreographers, three musicians, an internationally acclaimed fashion designer, four photographers, two light designers, two graphic artistes, three installation artistes, a content writer, massive properties, a panel of critics, this is a 50-minute long production. It will have three compositions, each based on exciting themes,” says choreographer Mayuri Upadhya. She is the artistic director of Nritarutya.
Mayuri has been trained in Bharatanatyam and also trained in Kalaripayattu, Taek-won-do and other modern dance techniques.
In ‘Dwandwa’, Mayuri says “she has has used the techniques of Bharatanatyam technique and folk movements such as Yakshagana. She has made a conscious effort in making the movements off centric. She has used a couplet in her music, which brings out the essence of the theme, posing a social question.” Music is by Raghu Dixit.
In ‘Chittara’, choreographed by Madhuri Upadhya, dancers create visual images on stage with graphics and projections. It seeks inspiration from a variety of kaleidoscopic and Rangoli patterns and is more of visual presentation. Music for this piece is by Rzhude David of ‘Thermal And A Quarter’ .
Mars’ is a composition that deals with the male energy, the uncontrolled zing, the confident strides, suppressed emotions, the child hiding inside a man. This piece has the usage of a unique prop of a huge see-saw in order to highlight the various levels in life and portray the way a man would deal with the given situation of highs and lows. Choreographer of this piece Sathya B G has been trained in modern dance techniques and Kalaripayattu and Taek-won-do. Music is by Shiva of ‘Yodhaka, a Chennai-based World Music band.
Choreographers are Mayuri Upadhya, Sathyanarayan B.G and Madhuri Upadhya. Dancers performing would include Mayuri Upadhya, Madhuri Upadhya, Sathyanarayan B.G, Geetha Ballal, Umesh Naidu, Rohan Raj, Nayana Bhat and Vishwa Kiran. Guest Dancers are Veena Basavarajaiah, Sudarshan. Supporting dancers include Sujay Shastry, Arun and Hemanth Kumar.
