Not just famous for pasta
Tuscan style homes are inspired by elements of nature. Crumbling stone walls, intricate wrought iron accessories and sturdy hardwood furniture, are some wonderful elements of this style, describes Neera Gulati.

Tuscany (Toscana in Italian), is one of the twenty regions of Italy. The capital is Florence and has an area of 22,990 sq km and about 3.6 million inhabitants. Tuscany is known better for its landscapes and artistic legacy.

Simplicity is one appeal which Tuscan interiors possess. Using sturdy materials, the look of Tuscan style decorating is rustic, warm and inviting and be careful, nothing in Tuscan home interiors should look new and shiny. There are many natural materials available in Tuscany, like limestone, which is widely used in Tuscany homes. Marble is found in abundance and is used in decorating details, flooring, arches and pillars.

Tuscan style homes are inspired by elements of nature. Crumbling stone walls, intricate wrought iron accessories and sturdy hardwood furniture, are some wonderful elements of this decorating style. Tuscan style must include a patio or portico. Water is a critical element in this style and many homes have a water fountain in the centre, surrounded by beautiful, widely growing greenery. Outdoor spaces are graced with marble statues; walkways, driveways and garden paths are set with brick or stone with grass grown between the stones.

Earthy colours

Colours in Tuscan style come from the earth. Golden yellow, brick, terracotta and greens can be seen everywhere. To contribute to a visual cooling effect, blue and green are used. Tuscan interiors feature a sun –baked rustic look characterised by crumbling stone patios, simple and sturdy furnishings with elegant iron ascents, terracotta tiles and textured wall finishes, in addition to elegant, detailed mural designs.  The closet doors can be given a faux wood finish with paint and a hair comb. A rustic bench can be used as a work space.

You can hunt for iron pieces lamps for the room.

Simple yet elegant

In the living room, you can add appeal with photos, artwork and knick-knacks along with sofa and chairs. Stick to a simple, country style with painted or distressed pine furniture. Careful selection of furniture and accessories will enhance your Tuscan home décor interior decorating scheme. Window treatments for the Tuscan decorative style should be plain and unobstructive. Lighting is another essential element to any decorating theme. Pick lighting that has an antique or rustic style. For the nostalgic look, use organic style rugs and mats in earth tones.

Walls are often painted soft white or grey, while natural woods, accent colours and stone provide the interest.

Ceilings have dark open timbers. Flooring often consists of wide wood planks, rough stone, unevenly coloured terracotta brick or clay tiles. The furniture in a Tuscan style home is usually of straight, simple lines from rough sawn local woods. To achieve a worn look, new pieces of dark woods or pine are often ‘distressed’ at the factor.

A long, family style wooden table is a must in a Tuscan kitchen, that would also have open shelves and free standing cupboards to display ceramics and pottery, with kitchen sinks are made of natural stone or porcelain.

Cabinet and sink hardware would often be dark wrought iron.  While it is important that items have the same general feel, they do not have to match. A certain quirky individuality is desirable. Likewise, scrapes in furniture add to their character in Tuscan interior design. Paired carefully with the right colours and other furnishings, signs of wear become charming. All that is old and forgotten becomes new and significant again. Here’s a time where you can take advantage of your mismatched pieces. Maybe you have an armoire in your bedroom that you could use or some old chairs in your attic.

You could also use different unmatched wooden chairs for your dining table, which would have somewhat similar lines. Tuscan style interior design is full of rustic charm. Natural sunlight is very important to give a Tuscan look.

Tuscan style interior design is a great choice for a kitchen, bedroom or living rooms. By combining natural materials, earthy colours and simple lines, Tuscan style interior design will turn your home into a cheerful, sunny refuge.
