TENNIS / Foreign round-up
Davenport in last four stage
Auckland, reuters:

Lindsay Davenport continued her smooth progress towards another title as she cruised past Sara Errani of Italy 6-3, 6-3 to reach the semifinals of the Auckland Classic on Thursday.

Davenport will now take on Tamira Paszek of Austria. The 17-year-old Paszek upset Russian second seed Maria Kirilenko 6-1, 6-3.

The top three seeds all bit the dust on Thursday with number one Vera Zvonareva and number three Katarina Srebotnik joining Kirilenko on the sidelines.

Zvonareva was ousted 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 by New Zealand wildcard Marina Erakovic. Erakovic will take on Aravane Rezai of France, who beat Srebotnik 6-1, 6-3.

Davydenko through

Top seed Nikolay Davydenko and third seed Andy Murray reached the quarter-finals of $1.5 million Qatar Open in contrasting style on Wednesday, adds Reuters from Doha.

Davydenko knocked out France's Fabrice Santoro 6-3, 6-3 to set up an all-Russian clash against Dmitry Tursunov. Tursunov got a walkover from Germany's Nicolas Keifer.

Murray, however, won a topsy-turvy match against former champion Rainer Schuettler of Germany 1-6, 6-0, 6-1. Murray will take on Sweden's Thomas Johansson, a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Michael Berrer of Germany.

In other quarter-finals, defending champion Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia will meet German Philipp Kohlschreiber while Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka will take on Argentine Augustin Calleri. Ljubicic got a walkover from Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic while Calleri scored a 6-3, 6-1 win over South Korean Hyung-Taik Lee.

Mauresmo ousted

Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo was beaten 4-6, 4-6 by Patty Schnyder in the quarterfinals of the Australian Hardcourt Championships, reports Reuters from Gold Coast.

Schnyder will now play Li Na of China, who defeated top seed Nicole Vaidisova's 6-3, 6-3. Defending champion Dinara Safina of Russia squandered five match points as she was beaten 6-4, 1-6, 6-7 by fifth seed Shahar Peer of Israel.

Hewitt advances

Top seed Lleyton Hewitt made light work of Argentine Jose Acasuso in reaching the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 6-2, 6-2, adds Reuters from Adelaide.

Third seed Jarkko Nieminen was too strong for Canadian qualifier Frank Dancevic, advancing to the last four with a 6-4, 6-1 win.

Nieminen now plays veteran American Vince Spadea, who beat German Mischa Zverev 6-3, 7-5.
