The Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Corporation, Karnataka has announced a new Amnesty Scheme effective from January 2008 to December 2008.

During this period, the prosecution cases filed against the employers and insured persons can be withdrawn.
For withdrawal of the prosecution cases, the employer will be required to pay the contribution involved in the period of prosecution along with interest and 25 per cent of the damages.

According to ESI Corporation, Karnataka Regional Director S Jayaprakash, the main advantage of the present amnesty scheme is that the employers are required to pay only 25 per cent of the damages levied to avail themselves of the  facility of amnesty, as against 100 per cent of the damages stipulated under the earlier amnesty scheme.

Apart from that, the employers will also be required to give an undertaking of regulator compliance in future.
