Addressing reporters after flagging off a State-wide Bharat Vikas Yatra in Bangalore on Thursday, CNRI chairman Mohan Dharia said that various farmers’ organisations, voluntary organisations and Vanarai had assembled at Baramati, Pune on December 21 and 22, and adopted a resolution recommending the Government to waive off farmers’ loans in rain fed areas. The recommendations were forwarded to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Dharia cautioned that the CNRI was ready to launch an agitation if the Centre and State Governments failed to implement the recommendations. The agitation would commence from Nagpur, attracting participation from hundreds of farmers, particularly from the suicide affected families, he said.
The Government’s proposed package to solve the farmers’ problems, Dharia noted, was inadequate and would be of no help to the farming community. An effective package to save agriculture and the community, was the one stated in the CNRI resolution, he added. CNRI co-chairman L V Saptharishi, CNRI UP Chapter president Akshay Bhai and CNRI Karnataka chapter executive director C G Kulakarni were present.
