Regretting over the lack of consumer awareness in the society, Consumers’ Forum District President Ravishankar said only 52 complaints have been filed in the consumers’ forums of the district in the last year.
Speaking at a 3-day-long National Consumers’ Day celebration and ‘Janajagruti Yajna’ that commenced at Gayathridevi Kalyan Mantap here on Thursday, he said 18 petitions each had been received in Kadur and Mudigere taluks, while 4 in Tarikere, 5 in Koppa, 6 in Narasimharajapura and one in Sringeri.
Public does not have the attitude to fight against low quality materials. The number of complaints being registered in Consumers’ Forums across the State has considerably decreased due to reduced awareness among the consumers.
Hence, awareness programmes are being conducted in each taluk once in every three months, he informed. In his inaugural address, Civil Judge H B Raveendranath advised the consumers to get receipt on the purchase of each article from the market. Speaking on the occasion, Zilla Panchayat CEO K Sundar Naik said it was better to have a fair knowledge of laws in order to keep away from problems, instead of searching for solutions after they were caught in troubles. AIT College Principal Dr C K Subbaraya released a booklet for consumers. Zilla Panchayat President Chandramma Manjunath inaugurated an exhibition and gave prizes.
