Ramana’s on Cunningham Road is hosting the annual Rajasthani food festival named Rangilo Rajasthan. This is the ideal season for the daal-bati-churma lovers to savour the best of dishes from the land of sand dunes.
Believing strongly that vegetarianism is the ideal way of life, Ramana’s was started by the Lohias on the philosophy of Shri Ramana Maharshi.
Neeta Lohia says Ramana’s has chosen winter as the ideal time to host Rangilo Rajasthan because the food though tasty, is a bit heavy-duty. Daals and flours dominate major part of the fare, and except for in Pachmele Ki Sabji, regular vegetables are used sparingly. Due to the non-availabilty of greens and vegetables in this arid region, Rajasthanis have developed an art to cook up some splendid dishes with flours and daals.
Kalmi vadaas and Dahi vadaas make for a good starter. Kanji vadaas, though popular among Rajasthanis is more of an acquired taste.
But don’t miss your share of Daal-baati soaked in ghee and then sate your sweet tooth with a generous scoop of Churma.
Go for a bread basket with Bajre ki roti, Missi roti and Daal ki poori and pair them with the authentic Gatte ki sabji. Your Rajasthani meal has almost hit the tail-end. A sumptuous pair of Malpuas later, complement the experience with a sonorous siesta!
The festival is on till January 6 for lunch and dinner.
