BUZZ IN THE CITY

Artistic dance

Anita Ratnam is performing Neelam - drowning in bliss at 6.30 pm on January 6 at the 9th annual Sanskruti National Dance Festival, at ADA Ranga Mandira Auditorium, JC Road. It arrives in the City  after enjoying much acclaim in the USA.

Anita Ratnam’s latest work, Neelam, feels like a work of fine artistic unity effected by symbolic evocations of colour, gestures, movements, lighting and music. A journey throught he androgynous dance of Nambi, the erotic cajoling of Aandal to Panchajanya, Krishna’s heart – rending surrender to Radha, and montages of the Ramayana – traverse a vast ground between the individual and the epic; between masculine valour, female sexuality, and androgyny; between the Always, Andal, Jayadeva and Muthuswami Dikshitar.

Bharatanatyam

The Indian Institute of World Culture is organising a Bharatanatyam performance by Harshita Bhat, disciple of Shubha Dhananjay on January 8 at 6 pm at the Institute premises at B P Wadia Road, Basavanagudi.

She is a recipient of National Scholarship from the Centre for Resources and Training (CCRT) New Delhi and had taken up their workshop at Hyderabad. She has also passed her junior and senior exams in first class.

She has participated in many national and religious festivals like Dasara at Mysore, Vachanamahotsava at Delhi & Davanagere, Chalukyotsava at Badami, National festivals at Udupi and Karkala, Kuvempu bhatama-hotsava at Mysore, Brahmotsava at ISKCON, Janapada Utsava at Janapada Loka, Sound and Light Production at Gadag as part of Lakkundi Utsava etc.
