Nrupathunga S K
Kannada (A)
Cast: Sunil, Sumit, Ekta, Mandeep Roy
Director: Y K Mudduraj

There are films which need no introduction, as they are worth watching. Then there are films which fail to live up to the expectations, despite having big stars. Sadly, the last set of films neither have big stars nor a good story, but still manages to draw crowds. The modus operandi? Very simple. The poster bears a caption claiming the movie to have won award at some festival. ‘Current-feel the power’ belongs to this last category.

The film claims to have won the legal battle at New Delhi. The funny thing is that these sort of films do not need any certificate as the posters themselves tell you the ‘quality’ of the movie! One often wonders, what inspires movie makers to produce such movies which are neither entertaining nor thought-provoking.

Movie goers are made to believe that this is what ‘entertainment’ means. Sadly, it would reduce their appetite for good films in the long run.

The plot revolves around a married couple Prem (Sumit) and Priya (Ekta) whose family life is ruined by Prem’s boss  Rahul Roy (Sunil). Rahul, who has a crush on Ekta, is often tempted by her ‘dangerous’ beauty. As usual Prem is victimised by Rahul. Ekta then makes up her mind to take revenge against Rahul with some ‘enjoyment’.
Some senseless scenes follow after the first half, using very tried and tested methods. The movie reminds one of ‘Aksar’ and ‘Murder’, which dealt with extramarital relationships. Now, cinebuffs badly need healthy entertainment, not ones which make them feel like they’ve committed a blunder, while coming out of the theatre.
