The Directorate of Archaeology and Museums at Mysore in association with Poorna Prajna College (PPC) in Udupi had organised a two-day workshop on ‘History and Archaeology of Udupi District’ at the college premises on Saturday.
Delivering the presidential address at the workshop, Joint director of Archeological Survey of India (New Delhi) Dr K V Ramesh said that decentralising the research process at the micro-level and later assimilating the findings may help to bring out an authentic referring material about the great rich archeological treasure of India. It is really a tough task to refine the Indian history as a whole which may result in the absence of factual details, he added.
“Every district in the country has its own priceless history that goes back to many centuries,” he said and urged the students to take up the study related to their district and bring out the hidden facts which are buried in the layers of history.
Questioning the authenticity of the historical books and research publications which lack serious in-depth study and actual facts, Mr Ramesh said that all the historical and archeological debris of the yester years should be cautiously studied and analysed before coming to any conclusion and that it is very essential to quote references for every detail. He also said that referring Sangama culture of the Tamilians may help to excavate the culture of Tulu nadu. Rural areas should be scrutinised to collect numismatic evidences of the past dynasties, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Labour Oscar Fernandes said that emphasis should be laid on the research studies pertaining to evolution of human history and culture in India. Former Minister Dr V S Acharya, Retired Professor of Mysore University V Narasimhamaurty, Principal of PPC Prof Raj Mohan, Secretary of PPC Administrative Board Dr G S Chandrasekhar among others were present.
