Attempt to set fire to Govt files
SHILLONG, Jan 5
Identity cards for admission to the Assam Civil Secretariat building has been introduced for the first time by the State Government since New Year’s Day.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating an alleged attempt to destroy some files in a particular department on the first floor of the Secretariat building on Friday. This was beleived to be the fourth attempt to burn Secretariat files. No damage has, however, been caused.
Ayurveda-Modern system integration not favoured
BANGALORE, Jan 5
Speakers at the Central Health Council meeting here today expressed their views generally against integration of Ayurvedic and modern systems of medicine. Mr Dey doubted the capacity of the modern system of medicine in tackling health problems under the present conditions and therefore felt that a rejuvenated Ayurvedic system would play an important role in providing health care to the people.

65 pc turnout for polling in State
BANGALORE, Jan 5
An estimated 60 to 65 per cent of the over 19.7 million voters in the State went to the polls to elect 223 of 224 representatives to the Seventh Assembly in a generally peaceful polling day today. Barring stray cases of clashes in Bellary district, snatching away of three ballot boxes from a booth in the Mudigere constituency, the one-day poll passed off without any major incidents.
