In an e-mail to friends which was handed over to mediapersons at a literary fair here on Saturday, Taslima regretted that her present state of existence “cannot be called living”.
Charging the Union Home Ministry of strictly monitoring the list of visitors to her present address, which is still unknown to her, she concludes in her letter: “I am virtually under house arrest. I long to be back in Kolkata.”
Her repeated outbursts have triggered speculation on whether her visa, due to expire in February, will be renewed. She has already been informed by the home ministry officials that there is no immediate possibility of her return to the city here.
This is not the first time that she described her stay in New Delhi as a kind of house arrest. In statement to a TV channel in December last year, similar remarks made by her, stirred up a hornet’s nest with the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee rejecting Taslima’s allegation.
