Funds misused in colleges
DH News Service,Bijapur:

Large scale irregularities have been noticed in the utilisation of Rs 264 crore grants sanctioned to the new Government Medical Colleges in the State, informed Lokayukta Vigilance (Health and Medical Education) Director Dr R Balasubramanya.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Dr Balasubramanya said, of the 10 government medical colleges, there were complaints against six.  A separate investigation was conducted  and the report would be sent to Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde.
He said  there were irregularities in several issues like ineligible candidates getting appointments with  fake certificates and drawing excess salary to the tune of almost Rs 75,000 salary per month (more than the salaries being offered in private medical colleges).
He said the situation in the unaided medical colleges could be even worse. “We have sent a proposal to the Lokayukta and the Centre to include unaided medical colleges in the purview of the Lokayukta. By bringing this amendment, irregularities in the Medical Education and Health Department can be effectively controlled,” he added.
