A meal that cost Rs 54,000
Jyothi Venkatesh
Navni was shocked when instead of working on settling the issue, the bank went ahead and blocked her card without bothering to inform her about the same, though she had registered her complaint in writing with the bank, thus causing her a lot of embarrassment when she went to shop at some other place...

TV actor Navni Parihar, who had made her debut with Mujrim Haazir and was last seen in films like Page 3 and Corporate, is angry with a multinational bank, because she and her family are being harassed by the recovery agents of the bank for no fault of hers.

Says Navni, “My husband Animeshji, my daughters and I went to a restaurant for dinner some time back and we paid through the credit card. However to our shock, I received a bill for Rs 54,000. I registered my protest with the bank officials who told me that the card must have been swiped by one of the waiters at the restaurant since on an earlier occasion, there was a complaint  about the restaurant and its waiters. They even promised to rectify the mistake.”

However, Navni was shocked when instead of working on settling the issue, the bank went ahead and blocked her card without bothering to inform her about the same, though she had registered her complaint in writing with the bank, thus causing her a lot of embarrassment when she went to shop at some other place. The worst was yet to come. Navni started receiving calls from the recovery agents of the bank threatening her to pay up the amount of Rs 54,000, though she had not signed those bills, due to the bank or else face disastrous consequences.

Navni lost her patience when one day she found both her little daughters in tears when they were asked by the recovery agent over the phone why their parents were not paying the bill. “This happened when we were not at home. Am I being targeted just because I am a known person? The bank has already written to me that they are trying to sort out the issue. I am going insane with the extortion calls coming up once in every two hours both in my landline as well as my cell phone.”

Navni has now threatened to lodge a police complaint if the calls persist. Says Navni agitatedly, “My husband leads a multinational company and we always pay up all our legitimate bills on time. I want to have peace of mind. It is high time this goondagiri ended.”
