We have been able to protect lakhs of children from Polio, as the immunisation programme is being undertaken on a war footing , said Zilla Panchayat President Chikkanarasimaiah on Sunday.
He was speaking at the pulse polio programme that was kickstarted in the district on Sunday.
This programme will be held for four days in several phases. The general public should make this programme a success, he added. Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav inaugurated the pulse polio programme by administering polio drops to a kid.
Taluk Panchayat President Subbarayappa, Dr Ashwathappa, executive officer, taluk medical officer Dr Soumya , Government Employees Association General Secretary Prasanna and others were also present. 661 polio booths have been set up in the district for the administration of polio drops. It has been decided to cover 1,48,911 children under this programme.
Three thousand medical workers will be participating in the programme and moreover one supervisor has been appointed to oversee five booths, informed Zilla Health officer Dr Anchutagi.
Also, Sri Vara has been appointed as the CEO of the Zilla Panchayat, a post which has been vacant since past four months.
