A melodious evening— there is no other word to define the 5th and final day of Alva’s Virasat-2008. After four days of pure classical music, dance and folk arts from different parts of the country that stuck to pure tradition, now it was the turn of the most popular art in India, film music.
Many renowned playback singers of Karnataka like Ajay Warrier, Rajesh Krishnan, L N Shastri, Archana Udupa, Ramesh Chandra, Surekha, Suneetha, Anuradha Bhat, Preetha, M D Pallavi, Kalavathi and Mukesh came out with popular melodies, both new and old from Kannada as well as Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi, enthralling the majestic audience. The huge crowd gathered at Shobhavana took each song to the heart, humming along and dancing with it at other times. Popular Kannada numbers like ‘Kariya I love you’, ‘Kunidu kunidu bare’, Anisuthide, ‘Kathal rojave’ and ‘Kanne kalaimane’ from Tamil, ‘Kolakkuzhal vili’ and ‘Ente nenjile’ from Malayalam were among the songs that enthused the evening in Moodabidre. A band named Sangama from Bangalore played the background score with elan.
To complement the melody of the early evening, the later part was donned by a group of Chhou dancers from North India. The group consisting of about 30 artistes performed under the auspices of Sangeetha Nataka Academy in New Delhi.
Another week in company of pure tradition and culture is over. The quality and precision maintained at Alva’s Virasat has certainly made it a favourite destination of the art loving public. And no doubt they will be eagerly waiting for the next season of this cultural extravaganza.
