Krishi Vignan Kendra Project Co-ordinator has suggested the farmers to take appropriate steps against the coconut tree disease (Kappu Thale Hulu) spreading rampantly in Kadur and Tarikere taluk.
He said that the young worms causing this disease are light green in colour with red lines all over its body while the grown up worms are brown in colour.
“The small ones of the worms are left under the coconut tree leaves, which they feed on and turn the green leaves into brown.
The brown spots gradually spread and make the entire leaf turn dry. Since the worms spread rampantly during summer, it results in reduced yield,” the co-ordinator added.
He informed that the medicines required for control of the disease is being given either free of cost or at subsidised rates at Chikmagalur, Kadur, Tarikere Department of Agriculture.
