Rita Bawa, principal of Kanya Maha Vidyala (KMV), the oldest and most renowned women’s college in the region, was found in a pool of blood in her house located within the college campus on Sunday morning.
Police said she was killed by assailants using blunt-edged weapons. The fleeing assailants also done to death two watchmen of the college and a cook, police said. Bawa, in her fifties had been living alone in her home on the campus.
The police were still searching for clues and for the motive behind the murder of the principal. They believed that it could be an insider’s job since the assailants did not decamp with any cash or ornaments but allegedly searched and took away some official documents.
The multiple murders have left the Punjab government red-faced at a time when a galaxy of Pujabi NRIs from all parts of the globe have converged in Jalandhar as part of the ongoing Punjabi NRI conclave where the state is being showcased as an ideal destination for investment.
