Tumkur Zilla Postal Division stands second in the State when it comes to popularising the new schemes of the postal department among the general public and in meeting the target, said Tumkur Zilla Superintendent of Post K R adhakrishna.
He was speaking at the PLI mela held at S S K Bhavan in the city.
The Postal department through the implementation of its various schemes is ready to face competition in the globalised scenario. A target of securing 40 crore postal insurance schemes was set in the district and till now 38 crore policies have already been secured. Also, in Pavagada taluk Rs 2.27 crore has been collected through 150 policy holders, informed Mr Radhakrishna.
Moreover, 60 such melas will be organised in the district to create awareness among the mass about the various policies and schemes of the department. Also, inorder to provide better and quick services to the public computerisation will be undertaken in the department. However, there is a provision in the postal department, wherein an individual can send money order to anybody in the State within 10 minutes, he added.
The postal department is synonymous with safety and security. Two decades ago only one post used to be received once in a week by a villager. However, in the changing scenario of communication technology there is an urgent need to modernise rural post offices, he said.
Moreover, post offices is an indispensable part of people’s lives, observed SI Nagaraj M Kammar, Pavagada Station, he added.
