Kasturba Hospital in Manipal is organising a complete hernia care clinic as part of the Hernia Care Week which is observed from January 18 to 14.
According to a press release, the theme of the week is ‘Pain free societies’. The patients will receive free registration, consultation by specialist and Hernia care at confessional rates in the clinic. Dr B H Anand Rao said that the clinic is being held to make people aware of hernia and its timely management before it could arise complications.
A hernia occurs when part of an internal organ bulges through a weak area of muscle. Most hernias have no symptoms apart from the presence of swelling, though a few patients complain of mild discomfort, but as the hernia grows in size discomfort becomes more severe, Dr Rao said and added that there is no limit to which a hernia can grow .
Treatment for hernia is a surgical repair which is relatively simple. There is no medicine which helps in the treatment of hernia. If they are not repaired, there is a risk that an emergency surgical procedure may be required at a later date, the release added.
