The government has released a sum of Rs 4.09 crore for Rural Drinking Water Supplies Project for the year 2007-08. With the funds being released, the rural people have some sigh of relief as the positive move has reduced the possibility of shortage of drinking water this year.
Zilla Panchayat Engineering department prepared an action plan of Rs 451.60 lakh under this project, which proposed to provide drinking water to the rural residential area and rural schools and submitted the same to the government.
Accordingly, State government released a sum of Rs 4.09 crore, said ZP Deputy Secretary Zulfikarulla, speaking to Deccan Herald on Monday. There are about 148 continued works at an estimatd cost of Rs 669.68 lakh, for which there is a requirement of Rs 451.60 lakh. It has been mentioned in the action plan that there are plans to take up 46 other works worth Rs 184.58 lakhs for, which there is a requirement of Rs 102.84 lakh.
He informed that there are plans to provide drinking water for three rural schools at an estimated cost of Rs 2.62 lakh and to 13 rural residential areas at an estimated cost of Rs 40.29 lakh.
He said that about 70 works at an estimated cost of Rs 303.87 lakh will be taken up in Somwarpet, for which there is a requirement of Rs 236.33 lakh. Apart from this, works of Rs 181.23 lakh has been planned in Virajpete for which there is a requirement of Rs 112.43 lakh. In Madikeri, there are plans to provide drinking water to five rural residential areas at an estimated cost of Rs 25.40 lakh, along with the immediate drinking water supplies in 26 rural residential areas.
