“Kudige Sports School, which is the first sports school of the State started about 25 years ago will celebrate its silver jubilee on January 21 and 22,” said Youth affair and Sports Commissioner Amar Kumar Pandey on Sunday.
Addressing the reporters after inspecting the school and the celebration preparations at Kudige, Mr Pandey said that the government plans to chalk of programmes with Kudige School as the centre, to motivate and encourage sports activities among the students of the sports schools across the State.
He said that adventure sports centre will be established in Kudige sports schools to promote adventure sports and a Ranga mandira in the format of Rangayana will also be set up to sow the seed of cultural activities in the school.
He informed that as a token of memory of the silver jubilee celebration Kudige Silver Hockey cup and Kudige Silver Volley ball cup will be started from this year onwards for boys and girls.
The winners of the tourney will be given Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively for each tournament, summing the total prize amount to Rs 4 lakh.
On the celebration, retired DGP A J Anand, Justice A J Ramesh and athlete M P Ganesh and others will be felicitated along with the outstanding students of the school.
Department Joint Director Y R Kantharajendra and District Assistant Director K Suresh were present.
