Karnataka Rakshna Vedike (KRV) members demanding reservation for Kannadigas in Railways protested by symbolically halting the train at Bangarpet railway station on Monday.
The rail roko was lead by Karnataka Rakshna Vedike’s Chief Secretary Jaidevaprasanna. Hundreds of protesters had gathered at the station and stopped the the Bangalore bound Brindavan Express for over 15 minutes.
Jaidevaprasanna who spoke on the occasion demanded that ongoing railway (Jan 4-27) interviews should be immediately cancelled as people have been brought in from neighbouring states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Bihar for the posts depriving the local Kannadigas of the job.
The protesters who raised slogans against Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav alleged the Kannada has been given a stepmother treatment by the centre. The protesters demanded that other language nameplates in station should be immediately replaced with Kannada nameplates.
The Karnataka Rakshna Vedike workers have threatened to lead a state wide protest if Kannadigas not are given job opportunities in Railways..
