Karnataka Backward Commission chairman C S Dwarakanath noted that the commission will conduct a caste-based census in the State, in the month of April.
“Keeping various micro-communities in mind, the Commission has decided to conduct the census. This will help us in concentrating on small communities. The final report will be handed over to the Government in the beginning of next year,” he said, speaking to reporters here on Monday.
“After 1931, Karnataka is conducting the census on its own for the first time. The exercise is being taken up on pilot basis, and other states may soon adopt the project. The Centre and State have sanctioned Rs 22.5 crore and Rs 2 crore respectively for the project. For the first time we will be using simputers which are being manufactured by BEL and the necessary software will be provided by the CMC- TATA.
