Addressing the reporters on Tuesday, Lions Club President M A Niranjan, Rotary Mist Hills President Vishwanath, Mr Babu Chandra Ullagaddi and Ambekal Naveen Kushalappa from Chamber of Commerce and others urged the authorities concerned to lay the footpath and also clear the uneven borders of the road.
“We have no objection to the concreting of road but we are objecting to the unscientific way roads have been laid without providing footpath. Due to this several riders have been injured and even pedestrians are posed to danger,” M A Niranjan said and added that Nagarika Hakku Samrakshana Samiti, bringing together representatives from various organisations must be formed immediately.
Mr Ambekal Naveen Kushalappa said that if the roads are not set right within another 10 days, they will call for a Madikeri bundh and protest in front of Madikeri City Municipal Council.
Responding to this, M C Nanaiah said that it is indeed a positive change that people from various organisations have decided to come together to raise voice against the sub standard developmental works and inactiveness of the administration. “Officers might be inactive but citizens should never be so,” he added. Nanaiah also urged the citizens to submit a memorandum to the Governor informing about the private bus stop and requesting him to come down to the City to see the actual scenario here.
