volunteers of taluk Karnataka Rakshana Vedike laid siege to the Post Office and BSNL office on Monday, opposing the injustice meted out to Kannadigas during the recruitment process for vacant posts in the Railway Department and atrocities being committed against Karnataka Rakshana Vedike volunteers.
The Vedike members took out a procession from the guest house in the town to the post office and BSNL office before staging the protest. They also formed a human chain around the Water Tank Circle and shouted slogans against Minister for Railways Lalu Prasad Yadav. Later they submitted a letter to the Governor through the Tahsildar. In the letter, they complained that in the written examination and physical tests held to fill the vacant posts for Group D workers throughout the country, Biharis have attended the tests in large numbers in Karnataka. This is a ploy of the Central Railway Minister to give opportunities for workers from Bihar, they charged. They said “by giving opportunities to people from outside the State, the unemployed Kannadigas are being sidelined. Hence the recruitment process must be stalled immediately,” they demanded.
As per the tri-language policy of the country, along with Hindi and English, even Kannada language must be given a place on the trains. Kannada must be given classical language status and disputes involving the State, including the Cauvery dispute must be amicably solved by the Centre, they demanded.
Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Taluk President N M Kanthraj, general secretary N A Shekhabba, vice-president Ashish Kumar, secretary N Manjunath, co-ordinator Abhinava Giriraj and city president Arun Kumar participated.
