The uproarious scenes normally witnessed in the Parliament was on Tuesday marked with lot of discipline and the Waste Disposal-2008 Bill was passed without any hindrance!
Yes, this was the scene at the 11th Youth Parliament competition held at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Hondarabalu in the taluk on Tuesday. There was healthy discussion and the proceedings were conducted in a dignified manner.
The proceedings which began at ‘Zero hour,’ at 12 noon went on for nearly one-and-a-half hours and many burning issues facing the nation were reflected in the discussions.
First on the list was the problems faced in Orissa and West Bengal when the opposition rained questions. The prime minister calmly replied to the questions assured money aid and relief work. Later, during question hour a member posed questions with facts and figures regarding farmers’ suicides. Agriculture Minister who spoke with lot of compassion for farmers highlighted about 2008 agriculture policy. Following this questions on 33 per cent reservation, tourism, environmental damage, encroachment of forest land, depletion of ground water were asked. The ministers of the respective departments replied to the questions.
There was also a lengthy debate on West Bengal SEZ issue. The members took the PM to task for the centre trying to impose President’s rule in that State.
Later, the Speaker introduced the foreign guests to the House. The deputy speaker announced that the 2008 Bill on Waste disposal was passed on a voice vote and said that the session was postponed indefinitely.
All in all it was a very enlightening display by the young minds and a real model to the politicians.
