The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists staged a rail roko protesting against the injustice done to the Kannidagas in the appointment in South Western Railways, here on Tuesday.
The activists stopped the Mysore-Shimoga train in the afternoon for nearly half-an-hour. In spite of the police trying to convince them it was not fruitful. Later, they were bodily lifted and the train was allowed to move.
At every stage, the Centre is discriminating against Karnataka. Though there is a clear direction to appoint locals for the D Group, it has been ignored. The State’s police are taking a anti-Kannada stand.
The activists said that till the injustice is stopped and proper steps are taken to appoint Kanndigas to the D group, the struggle would continue.
A written exam has been conducted for nearly 4.700 candidates for the openings in South Western Railways. The written exams are being conducted in Mysore, Bangalore and Hubli centres. There are more candidates from Bihar, Tamil Nadu and other states writing this exam.
The protesters alleged that every step the candidates from outside the State were given more prominence. There is a concentrated effort to see that the people from Karnataka are deprived of the chances.
It is unfortunate that due to political pressure, outsiders were being given chances, they charged.
Leaders K T Ravindrakumar, Vasantkumar, Hemant, C K Murthy, Dhani, Satish Patel, Balughatta Lokesh, Y R Bharati Gowda, Kumar led the protest.
