Two State MPs on Tuesday called on Minister of State for Railways R Velu and demanded cancellation of ongoing recruitment for Group D posts in the South Western Railway zone, demanding priority to Kannadigas for these posts.
BJP MP Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and JD(S) MP M Shivanna met Velu separately, and alleged nepotism in the recruitment process.
Velu assured the two members that corrective steps would be taken if any injustice had been done to Kannadigas.
The minister summoned Railway Board Chairman K C Jena and enquired about the recruitment. Jena reportedly said advertisements regarding interviews were given in local papers too.
The two MPs drew the minister’s attention to reports of protests including rail and road rokos staged by Kannada organisations, protesting the ‘step-motherly attitude’ to Kannadigas.
