A senior IAS officer had to tender an unconditional apology to a division bench of the Karnataka High Court, for his remarks during the hearing of a contempt of court proceedings on Tuesday.
The bench comprising Justice V G Sabhahit and L Narayanswamy permitted Gangaram Baderiya to leave the court, only after he filed an affidavit tendering an unconditional apology for the faux pas he had committed.
On Tuesday during the course of hearing, one of the judges wanted to know from an advocate “How the petitioners would come to Bangalore from Bellary?”.
Baderiya, who was in the hall, in a lighter vein remarked; “they would come by helicopter”.
This enraged the judges. Taking strong exception to the conduct of Baderiya, one of the judges sternly told him "you will know the real difference between an helicopter and an aeroplane if you are made to climb an aeroplane in a jail. If you don’t tender an unconditional apology by 2.30 pm, you will be sentenced to one day imprisonment”.
The bench slapped a fine of Rs 500 on another IAS officer Mahendra Jain for failing to appear despite passing of an order in this regard. These two officers are facing charges of contempt of court case.
The two are accused of recommending the sale of a mining land to B Kumaragowda at Kumaraswamy layout in Sandur taluk after giving an undertaking before the court that the land would be allotted to K Venkanna for mining purposes.
