Youth to head DCC: Alva
Karwar, DH News Service:

There will be sea change in the national and the state setup of the Congress Party soon after the Presidential Elections, AICC General Secretary Margaret Alva said.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, she noted that the long awaited appointment of new chief for the Uttara Kannada District Congress Committee would be headed by a youth.

There would be a major reshuffle in the party in the coming days keeping development of the country and the states in view. The  AICC  executive meeting held  recently decided to give preference to young leaders and the same strategy would be followed in the DCC also.

Ms Alva said that the list of the candidates for the DCC chief’s post was ready and it also contains names of many youth leaders.

Role models
National youth leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Jyotiraditya Scindiya, Sachin Pilot and others were the role models in the party.

There were also such kind of leaders like Sadanand Danganavar in the state too.

Disagreeing that the DCC was inactive, Ms Alva said that the present chief Shantaram Hegde seemed to be tired in his work and  there was a need to hand over the baton to youth leader who could strengthen the party.

The former union minister claimed that at present she belonged to seniors’ post in the party and the youth force under the age group of 45 years was a better setup.  Criticising JD (S) Supremo H D Deve Gowda, she said that those who speak against the JD(S)-BJP Government in the state were allegedly being included in the naxal sympathisers’ list which was an unfair act. “If I speak against the government, my name can be seen in the list”, he opined ironically.

Many progressive leaders including Rajendra Chenni’s name was also added to that list unfortunately.

Speaking about the development, she said that the present government had no systematic plan with regard to development programmes and policies.

The non-distribution of BPL cards was a clear indication of the government’s failure.
