Pregnancy hotline: Students top list
Nearly half the women seeking help from Shanghai’s first hotline for unexpected pregnancies are students, PTI reports from Beijing. Hotline officials in the Chinese metropolis released the figures on Sunday in a move to promote young people’s sexual awareness ahead of World Population Day on July 11.
After launching the hotline two years ago, the No. 411 Hospital of the People’s Liberation Army has received about 20,000 calls for consultations and help. About 45.38 per cent of callers are students and 31 per cent are migrant women, Shanghai Daily reported. “Among the students, 45 per cent come from vocational schools, 25 per cent from universities, 20 per cent from high schools and 10 per cent from middle schools,” hotline director Dr Yu Dongyan said.
Paris back to her partying days
Celebrity socialite Paris Hilton partied at a Hollywood club, the first time she was spotted at a nightclub after her release from jail last month, IANS reports from New York. Hilton, who served 23 days of a 45-day sentence after being found guilty of drinking and driving, was accompanied by her sister Nicky at a Los Angeles club Les Deux on Saturday.
One onlooker said: “Paris was super happy and full of smiles. She was laughing, having fun, drinking, dancing, singing along to songs, talking to everyone and hugging all the girls at her table.”
After her release from jail, Paris had vowed to put an end to her wild partying ways. She had said: “I’ve been doing it for a long time. It’s fun... But that’s not what I care about as much anymore. Obviously I’ll still go out sometimes. I’m young and I like to be social, but I’m going to focus more on my work.”
Robin Williams finds god
Pop star Robbie Williams has sparked speculation that he has found god by posting a new music video that refers to Jesus on his official website, IANS reports from London.
In the video, the 33-year-old singer is seen smoking a cigarette in a dark room, reciting lyrics from a new song ‘Bodies’.
He sings: “God came in the sunshine / He showed me a lifeline / What a day, Jesus really died for me / Yeah, Jesus really tried for me... Love lead off the energy / Rejection from my reflection / I want perfection.”
Latifah wanted to join politics
Queen Latifah wanted to be in politics before she opted for a career in singing and acting, IANS reports from New York.
The rapper, whose real name is Dana Owens, wanted to change the world while she was growing up. “It (a career in politics) did cross my mind. I was that kind of kid who wanted to be involved in student government. If there was a way I could change the world, I wanted to be involved in it,” she said.
