A new window for business collaboration
Shivani Mody
A host of new applications makes personalised communication in the business sector much easier.

Cisco on Monday launced new products and applications targetting the SMB (50 to 250 employees) and the mid-size companies. These products are based on the Unified Communications (UC) System 6.0 which is a comprehensive system for voice, data and video integrating mobility.
The newly launched products will help companies use their network as a platform for more effective and personalised business collaboration. Companies can improve the productivity of mobile employees and cost-effectively deliver unified communications to extend to third party application integration across the portfolio.
The system integrates wired, wireless and mobile devices to create a secure solution for the entire organisation, regardless of the worker’s location.
“Organisations need to be flexible and fasten their decision making process to be competitive in today’s environment. Our solutions will help them in this process providing a rich user experience across various locations,” says Manjula Talreja, Senior Director, Customer Business Transformation, Voice Technology Group, Cisco.
Speaking at same day-long conference; Voicecomm 2007 in Bangalore, Minhaj Zia, Business Development Manager, Unified Communications, India says, “The Cisco Unified Mobile Communicator provides employees with access to their enterprise capabilities using mobile phones and smart phones having an intuitive graphical interface.
They can send secure text messages, do instant messaging, view business emails and check voicemail.”
The cisco unified wireless IP phone 7921G enhances voice over wireless LAN communications to the enterprise and supports wireless 802.11 a/b/g standards.
This is one of the first IP phones that offers dedicated keys for      mute, volume and applications such as “push to talk” and a docking/charging/station with integrated speakerphone, informs the company.
The Cisco UC manager business edition is simple to install and manage and offers flexible deloyment options for growth. It also has the capabilites of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace 6.0 as a single solution, user environment for voice, video and Web conferencing. Users can listen to and answer messages as they are being recorded, hands-free operation with speech recognition and the ability to view, sort and play messages on the display of a cisco unified IP phone.
Mr Zia say, “The system is secure, extensible and integrates smoothly with existing business desktop tools for plug-and-play functionality.”
“Since we launced our IP telephony in March we are seeing growth across the IT and ITeS, banking and financial services, manufacturing, retail and pharmaceutical verticals,” informs Ms Talreja. Mr Zia adds, “We are looking to target a $310 million market size, while seeing a 37 per cent growth for the IP telephony.” He adds,
“The price per user has also been reduced by 15 to 20 per cent. Per user the price was about $350 which has gone down to $300, which will be an advantage to organisations.”
