Take the allegations with a pinch of salt
Sir, We need to take the allegations being made against Ms Pratibha Patil, the UPA’s Presidential candidate, with a pinch of salt.
Why were these allegations regarding the mismanagement of the co-operative bank and the alleged involvement of her brother in a murder case not made earlier at least when she was the Governor? Would it be correct to suggest that these allegations are of no consequence if they relate to the Governor of a state but not if they relate to the presidential candidate?
Mrs Patil’s views on the supernatural pertain to her beliefs. However, her views on the purdah system (irrespective of the religion) need to be commended rather than condemned as they show that she is opposed to bigotry and imposition of one’s will on others. The allegations levelled against her are political in nature. So indeed Mrs Patil has an edge over her rival, NDA supported independent candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Prevent terrorism
Sir, It is quite unfortunate that Tablighi Jamaat, a branch of Wahabiism, is spreading its evil ideas throughout the world under the disguise of Islam. Today Bhatkal has become the centre of Wahabism for South India and Bangalore has become the operating centre of Tablighi Jamaat. A majority of professionals, government officers, college students are brainwashed by their members.
For the London bomb blasts which took place last year, Jamaat was held responsible. Today about 80 per cent of mosques in Bangalore are occupied by them. Our political and security system cannot prevent these terrorist activities.

Send a clear message
Sir, The involvement of two doctors and one engineer in the UK terror plot has tarnished the image of Bangalore. Educated Muslims should think twice before associating with banned terror groups or leaders.
This incident has proved beyond doubt that these people are fanatics and they have been using their profession and intelligence to destroy the infrastructure in UK. Intellectuals or clerics from Muslim community should come out and speak openly to send a right message to the community.

Remove the stereotype
Sir, In support of our Prime Minister's statement “Don’t target any community”(DH, July 6) I would like to say that it is very important to remove the stereotype of “terrorists” on Muslims as Islam condemns terrorism and violence in the strongest terms. “..whosoever killeth a human being.., it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind.” [Quran, 5:32]. Terrorism is certainly not a monopoly of any religion but a monopoly of a set of perverted minds.

Be more consistent
Sir, This is in response to the presence of only one Karnataka cricketer in the list of probables for Twenty-20 World Cup in September this year and also for the tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya by India-A this month.
There was a time when there was a fair representation of Karnataka in the Indian cricket team. But in the last five years or so, contribution from our state is limited to Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble and only Robin Uthappa could make some impression last year. Have the administrators of the Karnataka State Cricket Association looked into this pathetic state of affairs? Players need to be more consistent in Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy to make some impression.
