While dismissing a petition filed by a voluntary agency against Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA), the Supreme Court Tuesday said social activist Medha Patkar is clean.
The petition riled the bench comprising Justices C K Thakker and Altmas Kabir so much so that it even imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on president of the National Council for Civil Liberties V K Saxena, who had filed the petition seeking direction to the government for a CBI probe against the NBA for allegedly receiving foreign funds. “In our view the petitioner had raised frivolous allegations without valid reasons and substance. There is no need to institute a probe against NBA,” said the bench.
