The Opposition Congress on Tuesday staged a walkout in the Legislative Assembly alleging that the government has failed to conduct elections to the urban local bodies including Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, as per the provisions of the Constitution.
Replying to the issue of holding election to urban BBMP raised by Mr Ramalinga Reddy (Cong) during question hour, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said the election to the urban local bodies would be held soon after the process of reservation of wards is complete. The process is likely to be completed by July 31. The elections to the BBMP would be held after completing the process of delimitation of wards.
However, the Congress members, led by Leader of the Opposition N Dharam Singh staged a walkout alleging that the government has no intention of holding early elections to the local bodies.
Janata Darshan
Mr Kumaraswamy had received 70,432 petitions from public during his 13 ‘Janata Darshans’ held in Bangalore and 34 ‘Janata Darshans’ during his village state. Of these, 40 petitions have been disposed of by taking necessary action, said Mr Kumaraswamy while replying to a question raised by Narendra Babu of Congress.
Land encroachment
As many as 886.06 acres of government land recovered from encroachers would be reauctioned as the first time auctioning had received bids less than the reserve price fixed by the government, said Revenue Minister Jagadish Shetter.
In a written reply to a question by Mr Druvanarayana (Cong), Mr Shettar said the government has approved bids for 297 acres of the total 1,183.06 acres of encroached land put for auction.
