The Home Guard department on Wednesday opened a counselling centre with the help of Alcoholic Anonymous for those Home Guard Jawans and policemen who are addicted to liquor and other drugs.
DGP Jija Madhavan Hari Singh addressing after the inauguration of the counselling centre, at Home Guards headquarters said, she always tried to maintain distance from the drunkards but after coming in contact with Alcoholic Anonymous, she could realise that the drunkards too need care and they should not be treated with hatred. She said, the names of the home guard jawans and policemen coming to this counselling centre would be kept secret.“Our objective is to save them and their families from facing crisis,” said Jija Hari Singh.

The IGP of Home Guards Khali-ur-Rehman said that soon such centres will be started in some districts but by the end of December, the Home Guards department plans to spread this in the entire State.
The Alcoholic Anonymous is an NGO working to offer an helping hand to those who want to get rid of liquor or drug addiction. One of its office-bearer John Kutty said, people have wrong notion about alcoholism and the drunkards.
They could be brought to mainstream if they are treated well by the society and Alcoholic Anonymous works in that direction.
