Red alert has been sounded in the Pavagada taluk with the recent encounters between the naxalites and the police. SP P Harishekarana has instructed the police personnel to remain alert after proven naxal activities and the Venkatammahalli encounter.
He also conducted a high level  meeting of police officials and issued proper and necessary instructions to the concerned officials including Madhugiri sub division Dy SP Shivshankar, Circle inspector Kallesappa, and Anti- Naxal team inspector Narayana Swami.
Measures
Precautionary measures have been notched up. A massive investigation will  be conducted in the hilly regions around Pavagada taluk  by the Anti-Naxal force. Check posts will set up on roads bordering Andhra Pradesh and there will also be naka bandi in the necessary regions. Inspection of vehicles has also been stepped up.
Though these preventive measures have been part of the regular procedure in Chikmagalur, it has taken on added seriousness in view of the recent naxal encounter.
The police have also been instructed to take suspicious characters in the region for questioning. With the recent events fresh in everyone’s minds, the top brass of the police force have increased the attention given to the problem of naxals in the area.
