The civic workers (paurakarmikas) have decided to hold an indefinite strike from July 16, as the government has failed to respond to the requests made time and again to fulfuil their justifiable demands, stated a press release issued by the Association of civic workers.
The Association demanded that the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission must be implemented and the civic workers employed on daily wage basis since 1985 must be appointed as per the Supreme Court order in 227 local bodies in the State. As a step to attract the attention of the government, the civic workers have been attending duty by tying black ribbons on their right hand since July 1. If the government still continues its negligent attitude, an indefinite strike will commence from July 16, warned Association Joint Secretary T R Sathyanarayan. He also solicited the support of the public for the proposed protest.
