The DK unit of PUCL organised a protest in front of the DC’s office on Thursday, demanding an inquiry into the encounter killings at Menasinahadya in Koppa taluk where five people, alleged to be naxalites, were killed in an encounter.
PUCL DK unit President P B D’Sa said that the police were taking great liberties in matters relating to encounter killings and the government had lost control over them. He demanded that an FIR should be immediately registered in the jurisdictional police station under appropriate sections of the IPC, against the policemen who carried out the ‘encounter’ as per the guidelines of the NHRC.
