Obtain diploma along with bachelors degree: VC

Undergraduate students in some of the colleges of Mangalore University will have the rare opportunity of obtaining certain additional diploma certificates in parallel with their bachelor’s degree.
Field Marshal K M Cariappa (FMKMC) College in Madikeri will start an add-on courses in travel and tourism, and in computer hardware, while Milagres College Kallianpur will start an add-on course in Women Empowerment, and Sri Bhuvanendra College Karkala will start three courses, i.e., in Insurance and Tax, E-commerce and World Trade, and Foreign Exchange Trade.
Addressing press persons here on Thursday, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa said any student undergoing bachelor’s degree is eligible to join an add-on course irrespective of his branch. The colleges get Rs 6 lakh grant each from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for starting the add-on courses, he added.
Kodava Chair
Prof Kaveriappa said the university has sent the proposal to the government for establishing Kodava Chair. The proposal had been approved by the Academic Council on June 18.
The university will get Rs 25 lakh as the corpus fund to start the Chair, while the State Kannada and Culture department will give Rs 2 lakh every year to conduct its activities, he informed.
BCA college crisis
Replying to a query over the crisis at one Sri Krishna College in Karangalpady, the Vice-Chancellor  said the students facing the imbroglio of continuation of their BCA course, will be accommodated in other colleges by July 16.
A show-cause notice has been sent to the college on Wednesday, and it will be officially locked by the university on Friday, he informed.
