‘Root Out Inefficiency’
Bangalore, July 12.
Mr CM Poonacha, Home Minister, today expressed firm determination of the government to root out corruption in the administration and declared he would not hesitate to take the strongest measures against officials found guilty.
The Minister who was replying to the four-day debate on the Budget, however, cautioned against allegations being made without any basis: Otherwise each enquiry would entail unnecessary expenditure.
Strike Fever Spreads
New Delhi, July 12.
The Confederation of the Central Government Employees’ Unions today called upon their members - the Central government staff – to go on a country wide strike from the midnight of August 8-9, while the 15th Indian Labour Conference, comprising government, employers and labour representatives unanimously demanded the fixation of “fair and living” wages in industries.

Brisk Voting In Presidential Poll

New Delhi, July 12.
Ministers, Members of Parliament and State Legislators stood in queues today in Delhi and elsewhere to elect the nation’s seventh President. A total of 744 MPs and 5 MLAs voted in the Parliament House in one of the briskest ever elections for the office of the President of the country. The voting was also brisk in 21 State capitals.
Out of a total of 752 MPs, who are members of the electoral college, seven voted in their respective State headquarters.
