West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya succeeded in notching up the top spot for himself in a survey on Indias chief ministers, but failed to pull the state along with him on the index of investment attractiveness.
SC relief to State temple priests  
In a relief to over 70,000 archakas (priests) of 38,000 temples spread all over Karnataka, the Supreme Court on Thursday directed the State Government not to superannuate them at the age of 65, as they were pursuing the profession hereditarily.
Abducted FCI honcho killed in encounter  
The abducted Executive Director of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) P C Ram is confirmed dead. Mr Ram was killed late Wednesday night, when he was caught in a crossfire between his captors the militants of the proscribed ULFA and the police-personnel at Borkapanitenga, a village in central Assams Kamrup district.
Son identifies Rams body  
The body of the slain Executive Director of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) P C Ram was identified by his son Praveen Gautam in Guwahati on Thursday evening.
NIOS to launch on-demand exam plan

Living on the edge... A beachgoer walks through the garbage littered Juhu Beach in Mumbai on Thursday. For the past week, the sea around Juhu Beach has been churning out more than 300 tonnes of solid waste everyday. The city’s beach supervisor said that due to unspecified changes in the levels of sea current and wave patterns, huge quantities of solid waste, about 90 per cent of which is high-quality recyclable plastic - was being dumped on Juhu beach resulting in a huge stretch being buried under the garbage.
